The Classic Christmas Ornament is crocheted in the round, starting with a magic ring and worked in a spiral. The top of the bauble is crocheted in a contrasting colour and then a thread sewn into the top to hang on the tree.

I recommend Addi Swing, as it’s an ergonomic hook and it suits my style of crocheting – which is like holding a knife.

Sections to be repeated are indicated within squared brackets [ ], with the number of repeats written after.
Work in a continuous spiral without slip stitching into the first st in the round.
When changing colour, join the new yarn on the last yarn over of the previous stitch, unless otherwise stated.
Always sew in the ends on the wrong sides of your work.
Multiple stitches worked in one stitch.

Make seven baubles in each of the colours and use White to finish all baubles. For the bauble that has White as its main colour, use Purple Violet to finish that bauble.
Rnd 1: With MC and working into a magic ring, 1 ch (doesn’t count as a st), 8 dc into the ring. Pull the short tail to close the magic loop after the first rnd. (8 sts)
Continue crocheting in a continuous spiral.
Rnd 2: [2 dc into next st] eight times. (16 sts)
Sew in the end from the magic ring.
Rnd 3: 16 dc.
Rnd 4: [1 dc, 2 dc in next st] eight times. (24 sts)
Rnd 5: 24 dc.
Rnd 6: [2 dc, 2 dc in next st] eight times. (32 sts)
Rnd 7: 32 dc.
Rnd 8: [3 dc, 2 dc in next dc] eight times. (40 sts)

Cut yarn, leaving a short thread to sew in and secure. Sew in the end. Add in some more stuffing.
Rnd 17: With White, 8 dc.
Sew in the White join end and add more stuffing if required.
Rnd 18: 8 dc.
Cut the yarn leaving a long tail of 10 cm (4 in), fasten off, then weave the yarn through the final 8 sts and pull the thread gently to close the top like a drawstring bag. Sew in the end.
Cut seven 10 cm (4 in) lengths of white thread and attach them to the top of each bauble, knotting them at the top.
Then hang your baubles on the tree!

I had always dreamt of having a Christmas Tree completely covered in Knitted and Crocheted decorations. In 2018, we had moved to Australia and had no decorations with us, so took this as an opportunity to make all my decorations.
