The Ibiza Old Town skirt is perfect for chilled days walking around sight seeing and sitting in cafes.

Ibiza Old Town Skirt Ruth Haydock 8

It’s designed so you can wear it high waisted, or lower down on your hips, depending on your preference and the look you want to achieve!

It’s perfect for newer crocheters as it’s worked in the round and in one stitch! Making it easy to follow and there’s no sewing up at the end.

The Ibiza Old Town Skirt is worked straight from the bottom up to the hips. Slight shaping is then added from the hips to the waist.

And, what makes this design amazing is it comes in 16 sizes – so you can make it in your exact size!

Pattern (UK terms)

The skirt starts at the hem and is worked up to the waist. Change the colour of the yarn every round and change colour on the last yarn over on the final treble. You may change colour whenever you like, but I recommend having no more than four rounds between the last time you used a colour to prevent the unused yarn bunching or pulling on the stitches.

Do not cut the yarn after every colour change, instead bring the yarn up behind the work so that it moves up the work with you, do this after changing colour on the last yarn over and when making the 3 chain at the start of the round, chain over the unused yarn.

Hem to Hip

To start the skirt, create a length of ch in your size as indicated in the table below.

1. Hem to Hip Starting CH

Rnd 1: Hold ch in the rnd, making sure not to twist the ch, ss into the first st on the ch. 3 ch (counts as a st), 1 tr in all chs. Ss into first st in the rnd.

Rnd 2: 3 ch, tr all. Ss into first st in the rnd.

Repeat rnd 2, 35 more times (for sizes 1 to 9) or 41 more times (for sizes 10 to 16).

Optional: This is a great place to try on your skirt and see if you want to add any additional length. The last row should sit at your hips, and the remainder of the pattern will add 13 cm (5 in) to the top of your skirt.  Be aware that adding length will increase the amount of yarn you will need to complete the skirt.

Hip to Waist

The hip to waist section of the pattern involves decreasing two stitches every round. Follow the table for your size. Figure out your size using my sizing table here.

Rnd 18: Tr all. Ss into first st in the rnd.

Rnd 19: 3 ch, 1 tr, 2 ch, skip next 2 sts, [2 tr, 2 ch, skip next 2 sts] rep to end of the rnd. Ss into the first st in the rnd.

Rnd 20: Tr all. Ss into first st in the rnd.

Cut the yarn and sew in the ends.

Drawstring Length

For the drawstring, create a chain in the following length for your size.

Drawstring

Row 1: Dc in all chs. Cut the yarn and sew in the end.

Weave the drawstring through the gaps on the waistband.

And now your skirt is complete!
