Cosmic Sweetie Free Crochet Pattern
Crochet your own little sweet treat with this quick crochet pattern!
This little crocheted sweetie takes less than an hour to make and is a perfect entry level amigurumi project.
The sweetie is made up of three pieces, two end pieces and one main piece.
The Cosmic Sweetie Pattern uses up a small amount of yarn, making this a great way to use up oddments of yarn.
Inspiration for the sweetie
The inspiration for the Cosmic Sweetie pattern one Halloween, when I was thinking of a small decoration that I could make for my home that wasn’t a pumpkin! This sweetie was perfect! I put a few Cosmic Sweeties in a bowl for an alternative decoration.
I named this pattern the Cosmic Sweetie because I was watching a lot of sci-fi at the time I was designing it, probably Star Trek: The Next Generation, and I wanted to name it something out of this world.
Ideas for your sweetie
After Halloween, I attached a small loop to the Cosmic Sweetie and hung it on my Christmas tree.
The Cosmic Sweetie would be fabulous added to bunting too. Please do this!
If you have a cat, this would make a great toy, add some cat nip or attach a long piece of yarn to it for your kitty to chase.

I recommend Addi Swing, as it’s an ergonomic hook and it suits my style of crocheting – which is like holding a knife or buy a standard crochet hook.

Stitch Counts
The stitch count is indicated at the end of every round or row. Stitch counts are shown like this: (12 sts)
Repeats
Sections to be repeated are indicated within squared brackets [ ], with the number of repeats written after.
Additional Instructions (Crochet)
Amigurumi / Crochet in the round
Work in a continuous spiral without slip stitching into the first st in the round.
- Magic Loop: 1 ch in a magic ring does not count as a stitch. The 1 ch in a magic ring is to secure the ring and anchors the work. Always pull the short thread to close the magic ring after working the stitches into the ring. Sew in the end from the magic ring and cut off any excess yarn.
Sewing in ends
Always sew in the ends on the wrong sides of your work.
Stitch Increases
Multiple stitches worked in one stitch.
- UK Terms: “2 dc in next st”, which indicates that 2 dc stitches are worked into one stitch.
- US Terms: “2 sc in next st”, which indicates that 2 sc stitches are worked into one stitch.
Stitch Numbering
UK Terms
- I write with the number of stitches before the stitch, for example, 2 dc = 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st.
US Terms
- I write with the number of stitches before the stitch, for example, 2 sc = 1 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st.

Cosmic Sweetie Pattern (UK Terms)
Main Piece
Rnd 1: Working into a magic ring, 1 ch, 4 dc into the ring. Pull the tail to close the ring. (4 sts)
Continue in a continuous spiral.
Rnd 2: [2 dc in next st] four times. (8 sts)
Sew in yarn end from round 1 and cut off any excess yarn.
Rnd 3: 8 dc.
Rnd 4: [2 dc in next st] eight times. (16 sts)
Rnd 5: 16 dc.
Rnd 6: [1 dc, 2 dc in next st] eight times. (24 sts)
Rnd 7: 24 dc.
Rnds 8 to 10: Repeat round 7.
Rnd 11: [1 dc, dc2tog] eight times. (16 sts)
Rnd 12: 16 dc.
Stuff the sweetie.
Rnd 13: [Dc2tog] eight times. (8 sts)
Rnd 14: 8 dc.
Add in a tiny bit more stuffing.
Rnd 15: [Dc2tog] four times. (4 sts)
Cut the yarn leaving a 10 cm (4 in) tail, fasten off and then weave the yarn through the final four stitches. Then pull gently to secure. Sew in the end.
Ends (Make two)
Rnd 1: Leaving a long tail of 10 cm (4 in) and working into a magic ring, 1 ch, 4 dc into the ring. Pull the tail to close the ring. (4 sts)
Rnds 2 to 6: Work rounds 2 to 6, for the sweetie body.
Cut the yarn and fasten off, leaving a short tail to sew in. Sew the sweetie end onto the body using the long tail from the magic ring.
If using this as a tree decoration, attach a small length of sewing thread to the sweetie and make into a loop to hang on your tree.

Main Piece
