Darcy the Dingo is a quick crochet in the round pattern.
Darcy’s pattern uses small amounts of yarn, making her a great project for those odds and ends of yarn.

I recommend Addi Swing, as it’s an ergonomic hook and it suits my style of crocheting – which is like holding a knife or buy a standard crochet hook.

Additional Instructions
Amigurumi / Crochet in the round
Work in a continuous spiral without slip stitching into the first st in the round.
- Magic Loop: 1 ch in a magic ring does not count as a stitch. The 1 ch in a magic ring is to secure the ring and anchors the work. Always pull the short thread to close the magic ring after working the stitches into the ring. Sew in the end from the magic ring and cut off any excess yarn.
Decreasing
- UK Terms: When decreasing, dc2tog works better for patterns with frequent colour changes instead of an invisible decrease often used in amigurumi
- US Terms: When decreasing, sc2tog works better for patterns with frequent colour changes instead of an invisible decrease often used in amigurumi
Colour Changes
When changing color, join the new yarn on the last yarn over of the previous stitch, unless otherwise stated.
Sewing in ends
Always sew in the ends on the wrong sides of your work.
Stitch Increases
Multiple stitches worked in one stitch.
- UK Terms: “2 dc in next st”, which indicates that 2 dc stitches are worked into one stitch.
- US Terms: “2 sc in next st”, which indicates that 2 sc stitches are worked into one stitch.
Stitch Numbering
UK Terms
- I write with the number of stitches before the stitch, for example, 2 dc = 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st.
US Terms
- I write with the number of stitches before the stitch, for example, 2 sc = 1 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st.
Yarn Substitutes
If using alternative yarn, for example 10 Ply, you will need to use a smaller hook than advised for that yarn. For example, if the yarn band recommends 5 mm for a 10 Ply, use a 4.5 mm or 4 mm, this is so that the crochet is firm and will not allow any fibrefill stuffing to come through.

Pattern (UK Terms)
Head
The head pattern starts at the Dingo’s nose. The nose is worked in the rnd with a starting 1 ch at the beginning of each rnd, this 1 ch does not count as a st. Black is used for rnd 1, prepare to change to white on the final yo of the final st on rnd 1.
Rnd 1: With Black, working into a magic ring, 1 ch, 8 dc. Ss into first st. (8 sts)
Cut Black, leaving a short tail to sew up the nose at the end of the next rnd.
From now on you will be using both White and Cream. Read ahead in the pattern so you know to when the colour change is coming up so you can change colour on the last yo of the previous st.
Rnd 2: With White, 1 ch, [2 dc in next st] twice, with Cream, [2 dc in next st] four times, with White, [2 dc in next st] twice. Ss into first st. (16 sts)
Sew in the end from the magic ring. Cut off any excess.
Rnd 3: With White, 1 ch, 4 dc, with Cream, 8 dc, with White, 4 dc. Ss into first st.
Sew in the Cream and White join ends from rnd 2.
Rnds 4 to 8: Rep rnd 3, five times. 16 sts on each rnd.
To make a shorter nose for a fox or dog, rep rnd 3, three times or fewer if you prefer.
Rnd 9: With White, 4 dc, with Cream, [2 dc in next st] eight times, with White, 4 dc. Ss into first st. (24 sts)

The back of the Dingo’s head is mostly Cream, so over the next few rounds there will be less white.
Rnd 22: With White, 4 dc, with Cream, 32 dc, with White, 4 dc. (40 sts)
Rnd 23: With White, 3 dc, with Cream, dc2tog, [3 dc, dc2tog] six times, 2 dc, with White, 1 dc, dc2tog. (32 sts)
Rnd 24: With White, 2 dc, with Cream, 30 dc. (32 sts)
Cut the White, fasten off and sew in the end.
Rnd 25: With Cream, [2 dc, dc2tog] eight times. (24 sts)
Stuff the head, leaving a little space at the top to do the final rounds.
Rnd 26 : [1 dc, dc2tog] eight times. (16 sts)
Rnd 27: 16 dc.
Rnd 28: [Dc2tog] eight times. (8 sts)
Add in a bit more stuffing. Cut the yarn leaving a 10 cm (4 in) tail, fasten off. Attach a sewing needle to the tail and then sew through the front loop of all final stitches, then gently pull to close the top. Sew in the end to secure and cut off any excess.
Eyes
Embroider on eyes using any stitch you like, with Black for the eyes. Position them above the nose, on rnds 12 and 13, see images at the end of the pattern for guidance.
If you prefer to crochet tiny black eyes then follow this simple pattern:
Rnd 1: With Black, working into a magic ring, 1 ch, 4 dc. Ss into the first st. Cut the yarn leaving a short tail of 10 cm (4 in), fasten off and sew onto the head.
Ears (Make Two)
The ears start at the pointy end of the ear. The outside and edges of the ear are Cream and the inside is White.
Rnd 1: With Cream, working into a magic ring, 1 ch, 4 dc. (4 sts)
Rnd 2: [2 dc in next st, 1 dc] twice. (6 sts)
Sew in the end from the magic ring.
Rnd 3: [2 dc in next st, 2 dc] twice. (8 sts)
Prepare to join White in the middle of the next rnd. When changing colour, do so on the last yo over the previous st.
Rnd 4: With Cream, 2 dc in next st, with White, 1 dc, with Cream, 2 dc, 2 dc in next st, 3 dc. (10 sts)
Rnd 5: With Cream, 2 dc in next st, with White, 3 dc, with Cream, 1 dc, 2 dc in next st, 4 dc. (12 sts)
Rnd 6: With Cream, 2 dc in next st, with White, 5 dc, with Cream, 2 dc in next st, 5 dc. (14 sts)
Rnd 7: With Cream, 2 dc, with White, 5 dc, with Cream, 7 dc. (14 sts)
For longer ears, rep rnd 7.
Cut the White, leaving a short tail, sew in the end. Cut the Cream leaving a tail of 10 cm (4 in) and use this tail to sew the ear onto rnd 22 of the head.
Body
The Dingo has a Cream back and a White belly. The pattern for the body starts at the neck. Read ahead in the pattern so you know to when the colour changes are coming up so you can change colour on the last yo of the previous st. The yarn tail created on rnd 1 is for joining the body to the head once the body is completed.
Rnd 1: With Cream, working into a magic ring, and leaving a tail of 10 cm (4 in), 1 ch, 8 dc. (8 sts)
Rnd 2: [2 dc in next st] eight times. (16 sts)
Rnd 3: With Cream, 6 dc, with White, 4 dc, with Cream, 6 dc. (16 sts)
Rnd 4: With Cream, [1 dc, 2 dc in next st] three times, with White, [1 dc, 2 dc in next st] twice, with Cream, [1 dc, 2 dc in next st] three times. (24 sts)
Sew in the White join end from rnd 3.
Rnd 5: With Cream, 9 dc, with White, 6 dc, with Cream, 9 dc. (24 sts)

Rnd 15: As rnd 5.
Rnd 16: With Cream, [1 dc, dc2tog] three times, with White, [1 dc, dc2tog] twice, with Cream, [1 dc, dc2tog] three times. (16 sts)
Stuff the body, leaving a little space at the top.
Rnd 17: As rnd 3.
Cut the White yarn, fasten off and sew in the end.
Rnd 18: With Cream, [dc2tog] eight times. (8 sts)
Add in a bit more stuffing. Cut the yarn leaving a 5 cm (2 in) tail, fasten off. Attach a sewing needle to the tail and then sew through the front loop of all final stitches, then gently pull to close the top.
Sew in the end to secure and cut off any excess.
Using the tail from the magic ring, sew the body onto the head.
Tail
The tail starts at the end of the tail where the white tip is.
Rnd 1: With White, working into a magic ring, 1 ch, 4 dc. (4 sts)
Rnd 2: [2 dc in next st] four times. (8 sts)
Sew in the end from the magic ring. Cut off any excess.
Rnd 3: 8 dc.
Rnds 4 to 6: Rep rnd 3, three times. 8 sts on each rnd. Prepare to change to Cream on the last yo of the final st.
Cut White, leaving a short tail, sew in the end and cut off the excess.
Rnd 7: With Cream, 8 dc.
Lightly stuff the end of the tail. Lightly stuff so it ‘s still bendy and flexible like a real tail.
Rnds 8 to 15: Rep rnd 7, 8 more times. (8 sts on each round for a total of 64 sts)
Lightly stuff the tail.
Rnd 16: [dc2tog] four times. (4 sts)
Cut the yarn, 10 cm (4 in) tail, fasten off. Sew the tail onto the body onto rnd 27 of the body.
Arm (Make two)
The pattern for the arm starts at the paw.
Rnd 1: With Cream, working into a magic ring, 1 ch, 4 dc. (4 sts)
Rnd 2: [2 dc in next st] four times. (8 sts)
Sew in the end from the magic ring. Cut off any excess.
Rnd 3: 8 dc.
Rnds 4 to 7 : Rep rnd 3, four times. 8 sts on each rnd.
Rnd 8: [Dc2tog] four times. (4 sts)
Cut the yarn, 10 cm (4 in) tail, fasten off. Stuff the arm. Then sew the arms onto the body on rnd 6 of the body and two stitches in from the white belly.
Leg (Make two)
The leg pattern starts at the foot end.
Rnd 1: With Cream, working into a magic ring, 1 ch, 4 dc. (4 sts)
Rnd 2: [2 dc in next st] four times. (8 sts)
Sew in the end from the magic ring. Cut off any excess.
Rnd 3: [2 dc in next st] eight times. (16 sts)
Rnd 4: 16 dc.
Rnd 5 and 6: Rep rnd 4.

Sew in the end from the magic ring. Cut off any excess.
Rnd 3: 8 sc.
Rnds 4 to 7 : Rep rnd 3, four times. 8 sts on each rnd.
Rnd 8: [Sc2tog] four times. (4 sts)
Cut the yarn, 10 cm (4 in) tail, fasten off. Stuff the arm. Then sew the arms onto the body on rnd 6 of the body and two stitches in from the white belly.
Leg (Make two)
The leg pattern starts at the foot end.
Rnd 1: With Cream, working into a magic ring, 1 ch, 4 sc. (4 sts)
Rnd 2: [2 sc in next st] four times. (8 sts)
Sew in the end from the magic ring. Cut off any excess.
Rnd 3: [2 sc in next st] eight times. (16 sts)
Rnd 4: 16 sc.
Rnd 5 and 6: Rep rnd 4.
Rnd 7: [Sc2tog, 6 sc] twice. (14 sts)
Rnd 8: [Sc2tog, 5 sc] twice. (12 sts)
Rnd 9: 12 sc.
Rnd 10: [Sc2tog] six times. (6 sts)
Cut the yarn, 10 cm (4 in) tail, fasten off. Stuff the leg. Then sew the legs onto the body on rnd 27 and beside the Dingo’s White belly.
Inspiration
We lived in Australia in 2018 – 2020 and in our final year we got to see dingoes! So many dingoes!
One of my favourite memories of seeing a dingo was when we were at Kings Canyon in the centre of Australia. It was sunset and we were watching it set with a glass of wine, when my partner told me he had seen a dingo in the campsite. We legged it to where he had last seen the dingo. (The wine did get spilt everywhere).
The dingo was running through the campsite and stealing people’s dinner! We then saw the dingo run off with a plastic container with nuts inside! It was pretty funny.
After seeing wild dingoes, I wanted to make my own crochet dingo as a reminder of these encounters, so Darcy was born and she’s just as cheeky as the wild ones.
