This Knitted Globe Pattern is the second design I ever created!
I started knitting at university and I loved to travel. From my little student flat, I often dreamt of going amazing places and the idea came to me to make a knitted globe to remind me of where I had been, and of course, where I wanted to go.
It takes me just a few hours to make this earth, max! So it’s a great last minute gift for a friend who loves the earth as much as you.
This Knitted Globe is about the size of a baseball / cricket ball. This size is great for indoor play, or turning it into a paperweight or stress ball.
This pattern uses up small amounts of yarn, making it a great way to use up yarn in your stash.
You don’t even have to use normal earth colours!

Intermediate
This little earth is knitted in the round over 5 double pointed knitting needles. This can be a bit challenging if you’ve never tried knitting in the round, which is why I created the video on how to cast on and how to start knitting in the round.
I love Picked Up / Lifted Increases! These are almost an invisible increase and they look really beautiful. I use this increase method in all my knitted globe patterns and many others. See my how to video for this lovely increase.
The trickiest part of this knitting pattern is changing colour. There are times where you don’t use the green yarn for some time (like when you crochet the Pacific), so you need to carry the unused colour behind the used colour and knit over your unused color every 3 or 4 stitches.
In my video, I called this technique “wrapping yarns”. This technique is known as Fair Isle or Stranded Colourwork.
I find when I change colour and carry my unused yarn at the back of my work, my yarns get twisted! So I tend to let it swing and untangle itself every few rounds, as you will see in the video.
